C. Squaring the Flower (MC – Main Color)

  1. Round 3: Attach MC to any ch 1 space. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 2 dc in the same space. Ch 1. (This is the first side cluster).

  2. In the next ch 1 space, work 3 tr (Treble Crochet), ch 2, 3 tr. (This is the first corner).

  3. In the next ch 1 space, work 3 dc. (Second side cluster).

  4. In the next ch 1 space, work 3 dc. (Third side cluster).

  5. In the next ch 1 space, work 3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr. (Second corner).

  6. Continue this pattern around: (3 dc), (3 dc), (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) until the square is complete. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3 to join.

  7. Round 4 & 5 (Granny Rounds): Ch 3. Work 3 dc clusters in the spaces between the previous round’s clusters. At the corners, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Sl st to join.

    • Continue adding rounds until the square is the desired width for your phone.

  8. Final Round (SC Border): Ch 1. Sc in each st around, working 3 sc in each corner ch 2 space. Sl st to join. FO one square. Do not FO the second square.

2. Pouch Body (Joining & Building Up)

The body is created by building up from the second Granny Square.

  1. Joining: Place the two squares together, with the flower side facing out (right side out).

  2. Using the working yarn from the second square and a sl st or sc border, join the squares along three sides (bottom and two sides). Leave the top side open. Do not FO.

  3. Pouch Sides (MC): Continue working in rounds up from the joined squares.

    • Round 1: Ch 1. Hdc in each st around the top edge of the bag opening. Sl st to join.

    • Round 2 and subsequent rounds: Ch 1 (or ch 2 for DC height). Work Hdc (or DC) in each st around. Sl st to join.

    • Repeat this round until the bag reaches the desired height, slightly taller than your phone.

3. The Flap

The flap is worked flat, off the back center of the pouch.

  1. Placement: Identify the center back stitches of the last round of the Pouch Body.

  2. Row 1: Ch 1. Sc across the number of stitches needed for the flap width (usually 8-10 stitches). Ch 1, turn.

  3. Row 2 and subsequent rows: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

  4. Shaping (Optional): Decrease one stitch on each end every few rows to give the flap a slightly rounded or tapered shape, if desired.

  5. Buttonhole: When the flap reaches the desired length, create a buttonhole by skipping a st in the center of the row and replacing it with a ch 1.

  6. Final Border: Work a sc border around the entire flap for a clean edge. FO.

  7. Finishing: Sew a button onto the front of the pouch body, aligning it with the buttonhole on the flap.

4. The Strap

The strap is a long, simple rectangle of single crochet.

  1. Start: With MC yarn, ch 6 (or more for a wider strap).

  2. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

  3. Row 2 and subsequent rows: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

  4. Repeat until the strap is the desired length (e.g., 50–60 inches for a cross-body strap).

  5. FO leaving a long tail for sewing.

  6. Attach: Sew the ends of the strap securely to the top sides of the pouch (or attach to D-rings if you chose to use them).
